Jenna Fox leaves you thinking about possibilites in the future. What would you do if you had the opportunity to live 200 years? What if you didn't have a say as to whether you wanted to live 200 years?

Start reading

I've been reading some of the books for NTB next year. Unwind by Neal Shusterman is one that stays in my mind along with The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. They remind me of The Lottery by Shirley Jackson. They all do with the future, The Hunger Games deals with having your name drawn to compete in a game of survival which everyone can watch on TV. Unwind deals with kids giving up their bodies, all body parts to others. These books will bring up lots of conversation. What do you think?

Contest Time

It is almost time to compete against the other middle schools. We will compete on Tuesday, May 5th in the morning. If we do well, we will be in the finals on the 8th!! Reveiw those books!

What is Name that Book?

Name that Book is competition team. Students read 40 books and compete in the spring against other HISD middle schools. They must identify the correct title of book from which a phrase, or sentences are read to them. Six students compete, the group includes usually less then 15 who have done the reading and work together to figure out the answers. Wanted: students who love to read and have good memories. Fun to get to know other readers and share the books with each other. Fun to go to the competition and meet students from other schools. Our best is 3rd place in the entire district. Watch out, we are going to be doing even better!!

Share

Ok, now we hit the reviewing big time. Please share any books you liked and what you liked about them. What books did you not like and what was it about those books you did not like. What have you done to help you remember the books you have read? What else can we do to get ready for the competition?
